The Best Flowers for a Summer Wedding
Feeling hot, hot, hot?! It’s summer in North Carolina and those temps are already blazing. Summer brides and grooms must take the hot and humid weather into account when planning for the big day, from the venue (psstt, we have AC!) to the dress/tux to the decor and everything in between. When it comes to flowers, you’ll want to ensure you get blooms that can stand the heat and won’t droop before the main event has even started, especially if part of your wedding is taking place outside. And so, we rounded up some of the best in-season summer flowers, whether you just need a solo bouquet to walk down the aisle with or are planning on adorning every table with blooms during the reception. Talk about flower power!
Chrysanthemums
These hearty flowers can pull their weight when it comes to heat. They also come in a variety of colors (purple, orange, yellow, pink, etc.), shapes, and sizes, so they’re perfect for any kind of wedding you’re throwing.
Baby’s Breath
Baby’s Breath is already super popular for wedding bouquets especially because they symbolize pure everlasting love. The tiny white flowers also pair well with any wedding dress and/or tux!

Carnations
Carnations are another great choice for weddings, as they come in a variety of colors, sizes, and variations. Pink carnations are probably the most popular, and they can easily be layered with other flowers to create a stunning bouquet or table centerpiece.
Sunflowers
Summer weddings were made for sunflowers! These sturdy blooms just scream warm weather, with their bright yellow petals immediately bringing a sense of happiness to everyone around them.
Roses
Naturally, you can’t go wrong with roses, arguably the most popular wedding flower choice given their romantic stereotype. Fun fact: With proper care, they can actually last between seven to 10 days after being cut!

Calla Lily
This fun cone-shaped flower thrives in the sun and automatically serves as a focal point in any bouquet. It also comes in a variety of colors, including orange, yellow, purple, pink, and white.
Birds of Paradise
If you’re leaning into a tropical-themed wedding, you can’t go wrong with this native-to-South Africa flora, which actually prefers humidity. Perfect for a middle-of-summer wedding in NC!
Alstroemeria
Alstroemeria last up to two weeks and are extremely versatile, with four to six small blooms on each stem that result in a delicate-looking bouquet great for any bride.
Lavender
Lavender is a highly desired bloom for summer weddings. It can last up to 10 days after being cut and is able to withstand both high temperatures and humidity. It’s a great filler for big bouquets but also stands out on its own—ideal for weddings with a purple color scheme!

Dahlias
These big blooms create a focal point for any bouquet with their dynamic shape and variety of shades. Go for a bold and vibrant hue or opt for a soft and subdued color depending on your palette.
Bloom, Baby, Bloom!
It’s not a wedding without flowers—even in the summertime! These heat-resistant blooms are sure to hold up even during the hottest and most humid of summer days, ensuring your big day has blooms aplenty all day long.
