A “Green” Wedding

Earth Day may have come and gone, but you don’t need an excuse to do good for Mother Earth. There are many ways you can practice sustainability every day—including at your wedding! Here are some “green” ideas for your big day.

Go Paperless

Instead of sending out printed invites, consider creating an email campaign to send to all your guests. Odds are, they’re going to have to RSVP on your wedding website anyway, so you might as well make the process easier for them by requiring just one click of a button!

Offer a Shuttle Service

If your wedding, reception, or afterparty are at different venues, hire a shuttle service to get your guests from place to place. It’s a win-win, as guests won’t have to worry about getting their own transportation to and from the events, and it’ll reduce the number of vehicles making several trips around town. (P.S. We love the Great Raleigh Trolley!)

Incorporate Natural Details

Mother Nature offers some great wedding decor! Instead of buying fake decorations like twigs and leaves, shop around outside—just make sure they’re clean and there are no bugs that’ll be coming to the big day.

Reusable Signage

Ditch printed signs and paper materials for reusable things like chalkboards or glass pieces that can be customized with markers or paint—and used again for your next big event (or even saved as decoration for your home).

Upcycled Decorations

Don’t throw out those empty jars, wine glasses, candle holders, vases, etc.! You can easily use them in creative ways for table centerpieces and other elements at your wedding.

Choose Reusable Items

Instead of buying paper or plastic tableware, flatware, etc., opt for reusable ones. You can find all sorts of gorgeous tableware at thrift stores or other secondhand stores. Bonus: Re-sell them after your wedding day to get some money back and help another bride/groom stay sustainable too.

Donate Your Leftover Flowers

It’s a real shame to throw away all the gorgeous blooms you utilized on your wedding day. There are several eco-friendly businesses and charities that will take your leftover flowers. Some will even compost them to keep waste out of landfills.
